SCOUTING REPORT
Background: Paul like many of the giants is a product of the mastic sports little
league system. He played there from ages 6-15. There he established himself as a winner, Winning 3 championships in a 7 year
span (championships were not available until after the age of 9). The only thing that stopped Paul from taking home 4 straight
championships was Dom Antinucci who took home the title one year. Paul started high school ball in 9th grade where a simple
typo changed his record breaking 1.000 batting average into a lowly .100 for the year. He moved up to varsity in 10th and
stayed there through 12th holding down centerfield where he was robbed of a gold glove in 11th grade in the now famous Rawlingsgate.
Days after the award was given out video tape of the winners head bobbing behind the commisioners desk was found. Paul put
his snub aside and pursued a college baseball career at BU, where they have no baseball team. Needless to say, his pursuit
was unsucessful. Paul continued to play during the summer for the Suffolk Dodgers of the Stan Musial league. Last season Paul
batted .420 with an OBP of .600, 20 stolen bases and 20 runs scored all good for the team lead. His efforts earned him a spot
on the all star team at Shea where Paul once again excited the fans as he smacked a tape measure shot of 436 ft 85 ft of which
were foul to the left. If you watch the replay, like we did, over and over and over and over and over and over again you will
see it was an optical illusion and that the ball was indeed fair.
Strengths: Paul is one of the premier leadoff hitters in the game. He gets on
base, does not strikeout and is good for 20+ stolen bases a year.
Weakness: The Clawball. Have you ever
seen Paul hit a Matt Smith Clawball? Neither has anybody else because he has never hit it. Paul has fallen victim to the clawball
many a time.
